This site started as a book—a book to help answer questions that new hosts of our Global Jams might have. Making it easier for you to organise your local Jam.
The Handbook was born at the ‘Global Service Jam unconference’ in Gothenburg in June 2011, extended at the JamJam in Nuremberg in December 2011 and June 2012, and further more in Sao Paulo in February 2013… over the years more and more topics got added and it more and more turned into the central memory of Jam knowledge on How to set up and run a Jam. The book was distributed as a PDF and served its purpose.
However, over the time we got requests that the wealth of information got too much for a simple ‘portable document format’ (PDF). We had to act. So, during the JamJam in Barcelona in 2013 we took the content to a new level and created this web site.
Be aware: in the spirit of prototyping and iteration, this is a shitty first draft of a web site. You might also call it ‘Jam Firestarter Web (alpha)’. You choose.
Does this mean there’s no PDF anymore? No, we will still compile a PDF version to print out and take with you to a Jam, to read on the tube or on the beach. Simply, because it is a great way for many people to get started. However, this handbook now serves as a starting point only—with many additional materials here on this web site.
Enjoy the materials and please: consider contributing.
